Love at first bite

Though it might seem controversial, scaring your guests away is the last thing you want to do at your Halloween party. Providing partygoers with a tasty treat to sink their teeth into is a surefire way to keep them raving about it for weeks to come. There are a wide variety of options to choose from when it comes to silly Halloween-themed snacks and it can be daunting to choose the best ones to serve your ghostly guests. Thankfully, we’ve compiled a list of three seasonal snacks that are easy to create along with a trendy plating technique to match every bone-chilling theme.

Spiderweb Cookies

Eerie spiderweb cookies are extremely easy to make and customize to your party’s color palette and personal style. A black frosting base with white webs creates a darker, classic version of this cookie, however, it’s all up to personal preference. These cookies can be decorated with sprinkles, mini plastic spiders, and more! They take less than an hour to bake, cool, and decorate. This spooky snack can be made with a variety of sugar cookies and icing recipes since the main component is the spider web decoration on top. This design is done by creating a plain frosting base then using a toothpick to drag the web color outward. It’s Always Autumn has a tutorial that is easy to follow and can be found here.

Graveyard Brownies

A spooky fog-filled graveyard serves as the inspiration for the next treat: graveyard brownies complete with candy bones and headstones. Halloween treat toppers like headstones, bones, pumpkins, and more can be found at most stores like Target and Walmart. These toppers allow for plenty of creative freedom when creating your creepy caskets. They can also be cut and shaped into a casket shape using a knife or a cookie cutter. An in-depth tutorial from Jo Cooks can be found here. We chose to go with bones, headstones, and a bit of green grass using frosting to complete the look.

Eyeball Cupcakes

A spooky treat buffet for your party guests would not be complete without a touch of blood and gore. This is why we chose to make these eyeball cupcakes. Using only frosting and a candy decoration, this eye-catching treat is super simple to create. For extra ease and convenience, these cupcakes could also be made by doubling the brownie batter used in the graveyard brownies recipe and using it in lieu of cupcake batter! However, we used red velvet cake mix to create a variety within our boo-tiful treat display. The recipe from the Domestic Rebel includes a cherry pie filling, which is the perfect addition if you’re looking for that extra wow factor.

A Charcuterie Board Finish

Now for the grand finale... The presentation! Instead of lining up your treats in nicely sorted rows or in sections like a traditional display, try this Halloween charcuterie board trend. We recreated it by using a few dark and spooky-themed trays from Target that fit our bones, blood, and gore theme. It is always a good idea to throw in a few lighthearted typical fall items to break up the darker tones, so we went with a ceramic pumpkin bowl to hold some miscellaneous items like candy corn in our char-spookery-board. This snack board by BakerMama is the perfect example. This put-together but slightly disorganized method of presentation flows perfectly with most other Halloween decor and is easy to customize for a variety of different themes. Send out the invites and get ready for the compliments, because this sweet treat layout will have your guests and ghouls feeling enchanted.
