The Enneagram Effect

The Enneagram Test has taken the world by storm, offering a tangible way for people to connect with their inner core values and identify their personality genre. The test consists of a series of questions that, after completing, places an individual under a personality “type.” With nine different types, this psychology quiz helps people pinpoint the way they communicate, see themselves, and process the world around them. Furthermore, this phenomenon applies to fashion. Personal style is a reflection on the inner workings of our psyche, displaying to the world who we are deep down inside. One of the most common forms of self-expression, wardrobe allows one to boldly make a statement about themselves without having to say anything. After discovering your Enneagram type, uncover how your personality yields a specific style.

TYPE ONE: THE REFORMER

Rational thinking, idealistic views, and self-control define the type one enneagram. Known as The Reformer, type ones practice perfectionism and intentionality, and this doesn’t end when it comes to fashion. Ones lean towards classic styles that have a timeless feeling. Matching sets cater to their desire to feel put together and have things in order. Staple pieces litter their closets, whether it’s a versatile coat that pairs well with different looks or a trusty pair of boots that elevates an outfit. Each piece they wear serves a specific purpose, reflecting their practical personality.

TYPE TWO: THE HELPER

Type twos are interpersonal and unconditionally generous, always caring deeply for others. They tend to opt for more simplistic yet sweet pieces of clothing, but keep in mind how their wardrobe is perceived to others due to their people-pleasing tendencies. From casual dresses paired with a simple tee to a flattering corset top, The Helper aims to dress in a manner that is warm and inviting to others.

TYPE THREE: THE ACHIEVER

Type threes are labeled The Achiever for good reason. They strive for success in all things, working diligently to achieve their goals and be the best of the best, and fashion is no exception. Threes stay on top of trends, keeping up with the latest styles and have-to-have pieces. Flared pants? They’ve got them. Blazers? They have multiple. Statement pieces, from bold jewelry to fashionable bags, accompany each of their ensembles. Threes are always dressed for success, ready to tackle their next big opportunity or fashion endeavor.

TYPE FOUR: THE INDIVIDUALIST

Known for their creative minds, emotional expression, and desire to stand out, type fours dress unapologetically themselves. Unafraid to make out-of-the-box choices, many admire this type’s fashion sense and gift for crafting artistic outfits. The Individualist is no stranger to fun colors and diverse patterns. You might spot a type four sporting a uniquely designed cardigan or their favorite thrifted pieces, making the unconventional the next up-and-coming fashion trend. Fours also tend to drift towards vintage pieces, finding unique ways to revive past styles. All in all, this type’s wardrobe is never a bore, constantly offering eclectic and imaginative ways to style different pieces.

TYPE FIVE: THE INVESTIGATOR

As the most rational and well-thought-out type, fives are known as “The Investigator.” These types are very put together and classy, and this personality translates into their clothing choices. Fives are extremely practical, ensuring each piece they wear serves a specific purpose. You can often find them in staple pieces such as thick coats, fun-yet-professional pants, and statement skirts. No piece slips by unnoticed or unthought-out, deliberately aiming to find new ways to style pieces while keeping an overall timeless look.

TYPE SIX: THE LOYALIST

If there’s one main desire that a type six holds dearly, it is the desire to feel safe. Type sixes are loyal to their wardrobes and favorite pieces, always aiming to grab their favorite sweater or their most reliable claw clip. Sometimes, this desire for safety holds them back from exploring new styles, but sixes simply like to remain comfortable in what they wear. They know what works best for them and know certain pieces won’t let them down. Basics, such as simple tanks and neutral-toned cardigans, are closet staples. Sixes often tend to be seen sporting athleisure, keeping themselves comfortable yet cute wherever they go—the best of both worlds.

TYPE SEVEN: THE ENTERTAINER

If there is one thing a type seven is going to do, it is dress fun, fresh, and flirty. These extroverted personalities are the life of the party, and their wardrobe is likely to gain the attention of a room. Colorful hued clothes are essential to match the bright personality of sevens. This yellow textured set has “The Entertainer” written all over it, as does this zebra print dress. Sevens are unafraid to explore saturations and diverse patterns, loving outfits that are just as stimulating as they are.

TYPE EIGHT: THE CHALLENGER

Eights are bold, edgy, and unafraid to make a statement. This strong personality never backs away from a challenge, which bleeds into their view of fashion. For them, nothing is ever too much or too daring; they face it all head-on. Classic blacks, whites, and other bold colors such as reds and purples are notorious in an eight’s wardrobe. Their vivacious persona draws them towards materials such as leather, silk, and velvet. They love to turn heads when they walk down the street and are often trendsetters for the latest fashion crazes. Dauntless in their fashion endeavors, many look to eights for inspiration on how to spice up their own closets.

TYPE NINE: THE PEACEMAKER

There is something so simple and timeless about the way type nines dress, which pays homage to their refreshing personalities. Nines are the most go-with-the-flow type, bringing a sense of peace and serenity wherever they go. Their styles are often on the minimalistic side, simplified with staple pieces that are accessorized in cute and fashionable ways. Denim jeans, knit sweaters, and classic flannels are all pieces that nines rely on. They might diversify their looks with additions such as overalls, fun head wraps, or dainty jewelry. Their outfits are reliable and revitalizing, just like their personalities.

The Enneagram uproots our innermost values and behavioral tendencies, which are often then reflected in our style. Whether you opt towards cozy, chunky sweaters or a bold pair of leather pants, our personal temperaments and dispositions characterize the way we dress. Moving forward, don’t be afraid to dress as a specific type, for it truly reflects the most beautiful and raw pieces of you for the world to see.
